“Some families are lucky enough to never experience a single tragedy. But then there are those families that seem to have tragedies waiting on the back burner. What can go wrong, goes wrong. And then gets worse.”
How do I start reviewing this book, I asked myself, without revealing so much to cause a spoiler?
I completed reading Verity with probably more questions than Lowen/Laura herself. And what is with these letters that seem so oddly convenient and inconvenient at the same time.
Ok to the crux of the book, VERITY is about a struggling author, Lowen/Laura who has been tasked to fill in the shoe of a famous and top writer in the industry, Verity and to complete the remaining series of her book (3 books). It also incorporates a twisted romantical plot to the whole story between Lowen/Laura and Veritys husband and I must say that rabbit hole is quite the exotic read.
My favorite part was the Harlequin romance going on between Jeremy and Lowen/Laura and when they finally sealed their connection. Oh, that scene, got my imagination working alright. Aside from that, I had so many questions after Lowen conveniently found the letter explaining or would I say revealing that everything we thought was right was wrong or everything we thought was wrong was right. Either way, the author ended the book literally saying that you should pick your own reality. My own book reality is that, that long ass letter was utter BS however still made me love Verity even more.
Now to Jeremy, I love the way he was painted in the book. I feel like I might lick his face if I saw him in real life (LOL). I have questions about the manuscript and Jeremy. Did he know all along and refused to acknowledge it? Why did he wait to act? Or is he also acting? I don’t trust him.
Characters
My favorite character was Verity. It was unfortunate how Colleen painted her towards the end of the book, but she stands winning to me. I only wish Colleen made her torment Lowen/Laura more because she steadily annoyed me throughout. She was just extra in ways that did not require her to be extra, which was just extra annoying. And really
Verdict
I am tempted to say I loved the book but that would be me lying. I enjoyed the read but the plot twist that I think would have made the book bang wasn’t there and the initial plot twist felt really flat, rushed and unexpected. Not sure it was twist because you might have seen it coming.
